Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions is an 1884 science fiction novella by the English schoolmaster Edwin Abbott Abbott.
As a satire, Flatland offered pointed observations on the social hierarchy of Victorian culture. As of this posting (3/20/2009), the small line drawings that illustrate this book are missing from the eBook editions, much to the detriment of the eBook editions. Check for this book on books.google.com to see what I'm talking about.
